WOODSOME HALL GOLF CLUB
On entering the gates of Woodsome Hall Golf Club, practice area to your left, the 18th fairway to the right, the historic clubhouse comes into view and you know that this is a special golf club.
The cobbled drive leads between the first tee and the professional’s shop to the entrance into the 16 century listed manor house. The course spreads around the clubhouse, through mature woodland, with country vistas to relieve the challenge of the tight fairways and small greens.
Woodsome takes pride in its traditional values, style and quality. To be a member of this prestigious club is an exclusive experience that brings many rewards.
The course was originally laid out by the designers Colt and McKenzie and built by the first professional, William Button in 1922. The legendary James Braid visited the club in 1929 to provide the current course design. The classic parkland course holds all the challenges sought by a serious golfer, but without being daunting.
Woodsome members are able to play a round without booking times on non-competition days and often feel as if they are playing their own private course. Golfers from other clubs take every opportunity to play Open competitions and matches at Woodsome to experience some of the pleasure available to members day in and day out.
Golf is to be enjoyed; and at Woodsome, with membership limited by design, we can provide the ideal combination of un-congested fairways, relaxing atmosphere, excellent pro-shop and coaching staff to meet the requirements of all handicaps.
The oak panelled rooms of the clubhouse are a joy to use after a round, at a social event or for a dining experience – and the food, prepared by chef Will, is second to none in the area. The main hall is stunning; the massive fireplace, with its carved lintel, the 17th century clock, minstrel’s gallery and lofty beams, provide members with enviable surroundings. Jackets and ties are required in the main bar and for evening dining. Members hold private paties in the clubhouse rooms and weddings either in the clubhouse or a marquee. More casual dress is accommodated by other bars during the day and throughout the clubhouse from 5pm on Fridays. All members take a pride in dressing appropriately, both in the clubhouse and on the course.
Woodsome maintains these traditional qualities and standards through limiting its membership and expecting members to uphold the traditions of the club. Potential members are invited to an interview to ensure that their standards and expectations match those of Woodsome Hall.
